Heavy Metal Forever: Fund for John Sarquiz

Donation protected
On Wednesday March 29, 2023 our beloved brother and friend, John Sarquiz was violently, brutally and callously taken away from his family far too soon.

The primary caregiver and best friend to his widowed mother, was standing outside of his Dyker Heights neighborhood deli at 7:45 pm when he was cowardly assaulted from behind. He was continually kicked in the head and beaten to death. A regular at the deli, he would often buy his mom scratch offs for a little bit of entertainment.

When John’s father died 10 years ago, John made a promise to care for his mother until the day she died, and that was what he was doing 110%. She was everything to him, and he was everything to her. So much more than money was robbed that day; the beautiful relationship between a mother and son was destroyed, leaving his mother, a strong but now deeply wounded woman, struggling to make sense of it all.

So many friends throughout John’s life have been touched by his sense of humor, loyalty, and willingness to give the shirt off his back. He was a simple man, who was a long time trusted employee at his job. He loved heavy metal and rock-n-roll music, the NY Giants, NY Rangers and NY Mets. All he wanted was to care for his mother, to work, to listen to music and watch the game. His one reprieve from the daily care of his mother would be a visit to 13th avenue, where he was known and loved by many. He would play some quick draw, say hello to his friends and bring his mom home her dinner.

All collected funds will go directly to funeral and burial costs, and since John’s financial assistance was a major part of his mother’s income, funds will go directly to the continued and ongoing support to his mother. Christina Sarquiz, who you may have seen speaking about her brother on the news, will be in receipt of the funds, to be assured they will go directly to John's mother for assistance with funeral, burial and daily funds.

If one can not send money, we understand and know that you are all worth more than your money. All prayers and good thoughts are welcome and needed. Thank you.
