Our niece, her husband, and their little boys, ages 5 and 1, have been displaced from their home in Atlanta due to black mold. The family bought their house two years ago. After months of sicknesses, which they attributed to daycare germs, they had the house inspected for mold.

The inspection showed that mold was present, with the most toxic levels in the boys' room. It turns out that the mold was everywhere, and they suddenly had to pack or throw out everything in their house, including their beloved baby grand piano.

A full gut is underway, and the family has been staying in a friend's guest bedroom 2 miles from their house, juggling the house demo/repair, working full time, school, and taking care of their sons, who continue to have compromised immune systems. Despite this temporary lodging assistance, the costs are mounting, and they have not even begun the long road ahead of mold toxicity detox.

Insurance will not cover costs as no broken pipes or water intrusion was present.
