My son is a typical teen, lots of attitude, loves videos games and doesn’t like to talk about his feelings. Yesterday we were told he needs surgery on his heart and for the first time in a long time I watch both my husband and my son cry. The doctor has scheduled his surgery for next week on Wednesday the 11th. We knew it was time for them to fix the electrical issue inside his heart but I don’t think any of us were prepared for it to happen so soon.
A month ago we rushed him to the ER where his heart rate was 230 upon arrival. Slowing his heart down with meds is the only way to get his heart back to normal. Unfortunately with his heart condition there are no triggers for an episode. It can happen when he’s watching tv, when he’s running outside, when he’s sitting in class. Knowing his heart can go into an episode at any point and the only way to stop it is with an ER trip has made life a little tricky for my teenage boy. He wants to go camping and play baseball and do all those things without worrying where the nearest hospital is. He wants nothing more than a normal life. Something we know surgery will give him.
We have been very blessed the last few months, we’ve had taxes done and are getting a good bit of money back. But the cost of the procedure is almost $75,000 and while insurance covers some of that cost we are still looking at around $22,800 for the surgery and the ER visit. We aren’t asking for more than the $7,800 because we believe we can come up with a payment plan through the hospital, use all our tax return, and are hoping to receive assistance through different options we’ve been given by friends and family! We have all our fingers crossed.
Thabk you to every single person that has reached out and pushed us into making this gofundme. We have the most amazing people in our lives.
