The Black Prisoners Caucus (BPC) is an organization that was founded in 1972 at the Monroe Correction Center by a group of African American brothers in search of how to make their situation, as well as the lives of other men of color easier.
The BPC is about creating healthy spaces of opportunities inside of prison, that can assist in the transition outside these walls. Some of these spaces created by the BPC at WSP include
BPC SPEAK - a public speaking class, helping those who attend enhance their speaking in front of a wide variety of individuals
Neurodiversity - a space to allow men and participating sponsors the opportunity to tap into their emotions and relieve their stress in a healthy environment without judgement
R.Y.T (Retrain Your Thinking) - a group catered to and lead by the youth, where young minds teach and support one another in adopting healthier thinking patterns
Reentry - a group of men and sponsors putting together resources and making connections to support individuals in their reentry process
Cultural events - read more about the annual Juneteenth event below!
In supporting BPC at WSP, you are supporting these programs, while also supporting the men who one day may be your neighbors which means supporting your community.
---
Juneteenth is a day of liberation, a day to reflect on the past and present sacrifices each individual has and is willing to make daily for the establishment of equal rights within all human beings but particularly the African American community.
Juneteenth is about celebrating the growth of the African American community as a whole through, activism, charitable work, educational opportunities, and support of Black and Brown owned businesses.
Through assistance from the community we're able to provide transportation for family and loved ones, food, garments for the incarcerated population, games for children, and art supplies to create beautiful designs. If you're willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
The B.P.C. at WSP
