Hi friends! My name is Jill Brawley & I am a mom of a CHD Heart Warrior in Winston Salem, NC. Our daughter, Maya, was born in March of 2022 with a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia and had her first open heart surgery to repair the defects in October of 2022. We were lucky enough to be given the gift of an early diagnosis (in utero).

My husband and I have been very blessed with an incredible community of family and friends who have continued to support us over last two years, and even though we have not been on this journey long, we know that having a support system while you take on this battle makes a huge difference.

Luckily for all of us, Maya's cardiologists office in Winston Salem could also see the value in heart families being there for each other and connected several of us.. From the start, it was a cathartic experience to be able to be there for each other in this unique shared journey. It was something we all wished we had when we first started our CHD journey, to have a community to surround us in hope and encouragement when facing so many scary uncertainties. How incredible it would have been to have a friend be there to help you find your footing along the way, one that understands in ways others simply cant.

So... Hopeful Hearts of the Triad was created.

We have one goal: Supporting heart families in the triad, all while advocating and raising awareness for CHD in NC and beyond.

1 out of every 100 babies born will be born with a CHD, and it is the most common type of birth defect. There will be many families every year in our community who will be needing our support. From the day a parent gets a CHD diagnosis(in utero or at birth), they will receive a personalized care package from H.H.O.T so they know we are right there with them whenever they're ready for support. Every other month we get together for dinner & assemble these boxes, and invite any heart parents to join to give them an opportunity to meet other heart families. We are continuously seeking donations to help support our efforts.

But in addition to heart gift boxes, being a medical parent is insanely expensive. So we want to help families in tangible ways as well, especially during hospital admissions. This looks like: parking passes, gas gifts cards, hotel gift cards, amazon gifts cards, coffee/lunch gift cards, medical supplies, etc. These things are important & help lighten the load so you can focus on what's important. We also plan events throughout the year: blood drives, Heart Moms Meet ups, fundraising & advocacy events, etc.

This is something we are all very passionate about & being able to "pay it forward" is incredibly important to all of us. A lot of us have been on the receiving end of that generosity & support, and the encouragement you feel from that act of kindness is an indescribable feeling. We have all heard it takes a village - And it takes an extra special village to raise a heart warrior. We are honored to be that unwavering village of hope.
