My name is Gaylyn Farmer and in May of 2021, I graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Art in Biology. During my time out of school, I have been working towards beginning my journey towards dental school and seeking opportunities to continue to serve others. This then led me on the path to apply for the International Medical Aid program where I would be working alongside physicians, dentists, and other healthcare providers to serve the people of Mombasa, Kenya. With trust in my God, I applied, and out of one of the strongest and largest application cycles, I was accepted into the dental internship to serve the people of Mombasa, Kenya in Africa, and will be leaving on February 12, 2022. As part of the program, I will be working at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, one of the second largest public hospitals in Kenya holding 750 beds and serving the entire coastal region of Kenya with a population of approximately six million people. I am honored to be a part of this life-changing opportunity and blessed to have the chance to travel to Africa to serve and learn from the physicians in Kenya and gain exposure to healthcare that may be different from what we are accustomed to in the United States. I will be able to experience the cultural difference in healthcare within a country different from everyday western medicine that I have experienced in the United States and bring back that knowledge with me as I further my career as a future dentist caring for my own patients. With that being said, I would like to ask for your support to help me reach my goal so that I am able to follow God’s plan that he has set for me. Thank you all so much for your help and I am more than appreciative of all your donations.
