Anyone who knows our dog, Stella, knows that running and fetching are her life.
Sadly, on March 28 she was fetching with daddy when she let out a sudden yip and collapsed to the ground. 

She immediately began limping, and it quickly continued to get worse. By the next morning, her back legs had no feeling and no use at all. After 3 visits to our vet with no relief, we were referred to a specialist in Mt. Pleasant. Our vet sent us there with low expectations and prepared us to possibly lose our pup. 

There, she received a CT scan which showed she had a slipped disk causing pressure on her spinal cord, and were told she needed immediate surgery or she would soon be facing permanent paralysis. 

Stella is 9 years young, with the energy and personality of a puppy. From the waist up, she is still 100% Stella, and we couldn’t bear to let her down without a fight.
 
She is now out of surgery and it went well. There was a lot of material pressed on her spinal cord, but her doctor got it all. We now face a challenging recovery, but have high hopes that our girl will someday walk, hopefully even run, again. 

Unfortunately this scary, tearful and stressful situation has cost our family $5,000 today. It is a true financial burden for us, but we feel we did what was right for Stella.
