You can make a difference by donating today to the Rescue Women Foundation in Kampala, Uganda!!!
We are African Rising Initiative, a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to empowering African communities through projects focused on education, sustainable agriculture, women's empowerment, and self-sufficiency. We secure funding for projects in multiple African nations, partnering with existing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to create sustainable impact.
We are currently raising funds to support the urgent health and medical needs of our partner NGO Rescue Women Foundation in Uganda. The mission of this women-led organization is to empower vulnerable women and girls for sustainable livelihoods economically and through education and health. They believe that empowering women and girls can lift them and the society around them out of poverty thereby contributing to development several-fold.
In Uganda, healthcare access is limited — maternal mortality stands at 343 deaths per 100,000 live births, and only 42% of births are attended by skilled health personnel.
The rescue center takes in underage girls who are victims of assault and have been sexually abused resulting in unplanned pregnancies. These young girls range in age from 11-18 years old. The center provides shelter, food, safety, counseling, clothing, hygiene supplies, and full prenatal / postnatal care through their nurses and midwife on staff. They also partner with a local hospital for childbirth services and fund all needed fees. These young mothers typically require emergency c-sections due to their smaller body sizes. They are currently housing and supporting 30 pregnant mothers, 22 nursing mothers, and 33 babies!!
All proceeds will benefit the Rescue Women Foundation health program for medical support to deliver healthy babies, thereby reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. Support covers a wide range of services, including first aid, vaccinations, medications, disease prevention (such as HIV, malaria, and other communicable diseases), prenatal and postnatal care, as well as health education—mental health included. Of biggest need is ongoing funding to support emergency c-sections and pregnancy complications these young mothers face.
Help us combat the issue of teenage pregnancy and provide these young mothers and their children in Uganda opportunity to grow and thrive.
