Hi! My name is Sarah. I am hoping to raise support for my sister, Laura, who lost all of her life’s possessions in a devastating fire.
My sister has always been my best friend, someone I can look up to, someone I see as my guidance. She is the greatest aunt in the world to my two little girls and makes sure they never want for anything, even if she herself is struggling.
That leads me to where we are today.
Following a difficult divorce, my sister moved her entire life into a storage unit. Not just extra stuff. Not just the big ticket items— everything. Her childhood possessions. Her memories. Photographs. Christmas ornaments. Her entire world.
Slowly, overtime, with persistence and grace, my sister has been working on rebuilding her life to be the promising future she’s always desired. From being there to family to going above and beyond in her work as a behavior technician for children.
Last month, that storage unit caught fire. Making matters worse, my sister (along with all the other tenants) was not told of the fire. For an entire month the elements ripped away at her exposed unit and there was no communication from the owners of the facility telling her just how devastating the fire was.
My sister was told “a fire occurred and we’re closed” and then radio silence for a month. Today she was told all units should be emptied by the end of the week and only when she called to ask questions was she told hers was “one of the worst”. They are not taking responsibility for any damages and insurance is not covering.
We know no amount of money will ever be able to restore her lost memories, but I am hoping that through the support of at least some financial assistance, the compassion given will help her heal.
