Hello beloved friends, family, and community,

We are part of a grassroots collective of mamas/caregivers building a nonprofit to serve as a multicultural hub for healing, support, and resources for mamas & primary caregivers in Oakland. Imagine: bodywork, support groups, therapy, doulas, diaper and community closet, healing retreats, families advocating for themselves, collective care practices, accessible, queer- and trans-inclusive, intergenerational, family-friendly, single parent-supporting, multicultural, multilingual, multiracial JOY.

We, the organizers of this campaign, live in East Oakland, on Ohlone land, full of families from diverse cultures and experiences. Yet all of the richness of our neighborhoods, cultures, and communities isn't reflected in accessible offerings for expecting, birthing, and postpartum parents and caregivers.

We want something different for ourselves, our children, and our people! We want community practices of care that center working, low-income, queer & trans, and BIPOC/BIPGM caregivers, birthers, and families. We want to center parents and matriarchs who uplift the entire community. We want a place where caregivers go to feel CARED FOR.

At a political and cultural moment when so much feels out-of-control and out of our control, we believe this effort is a powerful showing of our own agency to invest in community practices of care and mutual aid, and dive into local efforts that will help us stay strong against the attacks on reproductive rights, BIPGM people, trans people, women and children.

Please help us raise the startup funds we need for an initial launch—to incorporate, open a bank account, set up our board, apply for nonprofit status, build a website and materials, etc. Once we have a nonprofit established, it will open so many more doors: the ability to apply for funding and receive tax-deductible donations, find a space, pursue fiscal sponsorship, and build the dream!
