This isn’t something you’ll see from me often, but I’m asking for help from anyone who knows and loves our family.
My sister, Linda Hollrah, was the victim of a random stabbing last week in OKC. She was sitting in her car at Sonic waiting to pick up her order, when a man walked up and attacked her through her open car window. This man didn’t say a word - didn’t demand her car keys or reach for her purse - he just viciously attacked her with a large hunting knife. She suffered 5 stab wounds to the abdomen, forearm, and knee, before she was able to fight him off enough that he finally fled the scene.
Linda was immediately rushed to a nearby trauma center, where she underwent two emergency surgeries. It was a miracle that the assailant missed her major organs and she was able to get medical help so quickly. Had either of those factors been different, she may not have made it through this nightmare with her life.
I’m incredibly relieved to report that Linda’s been released from the hospital and is back at home recovering. At the same time, it scares me to say that her attacker still has not been found. The police have assured us they’re working hard to identify him and make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else...but it’s terrifying to know that he’s still out there somewhere.
The physical and emotional wounds from this trauma will take time and resources to heal. If you’re in a position to do so, we’re asking for help covering some of Linda’s ongoing medical expenses for physical and emotional therapy. For a hard-working single mother, seeking out help isn’t always the easiest thing, so I asked Linda’s permission to invite our family and friends to support her in this way. Any and all contributions are appreciated more than you know, as Linda and our family try to move forward from this senseless act of violence.
With all of that being said, I also know that the holiday season can be a challenging time for many. If you’re not in a place to contribute financially, I hope you’ll send your love, prayers, vibes, etc. Whatever particular form your positive energy takes, our girl could use as much as she can get right now.
If you know Linda, you know that’s she’s an incredibly kind-hearted and generous soul, and one of the last people in the world who would provoke this type of reaction in someone. Linda hopes that this will serve as a reminder to everyone, especially women, to always stay alert and aware of your surroundings. While there’s no way to protect ourselves and those we love from every threat that’s out there in the world, we have to stay vigilant and look out for ourselves and one another.
Thank you for being a part of our lives and for caring about my sister. I hope that together we can show Linda that she has a network of people who love and support her. Please hold your people close today and every day, and remember that we never know what tomorrow holds.
