Healing Hearts: Supporting Shan's Angels

Hi, I'm El! I met Shan during our time serving in the Army together. She was a shining beacon of light, radiating positivity and warmth wherever she went. When the devastating news of her passing by suicide reached us, the shockwaves reverberated through her family and her circle of friends.

In the midst of grief and the overwhelming question of whether we could have done more for Shan, I found solace in the idea of creating something meaningful in her memory. Thus, The Flannel Project was born.

Named after Shan's beloved dog, Flannel, The Flannel Project aims to honor Shan's spirit and legacy by supporting others facing mental health challenges. Flannel not only symbolizes the loyal companion she left behind but also embodies the comfort and warmth of the cozy material itself.

At The Flannel Project, our mission is simple yet profound: to wrap individuals in a metaphorical flannel blanket of warmth and reassurance, letting them know that they are not alone and that brighter days lie ahead. Through our work, we strive to create a safe space where individuals can find solace, support, and hope during their darkest moments.

One of our annual initiatives, "Wear a Flan 4 Shan," brings our community together in a show of solidarity and support. Each year, we don our flannel shirts and accessories for a trek to raise awareness for those suffering in silence and to raise funds for mental health resources. This event serves as a beacon of hope, reminding individuals that they are not alone in their struggles and that help is available.

This year our primary goal is to provide vital support to Courtney and Hannah, the two brave girls who found Shan and are now navigating their own paths toward healing. Your generous contributions to this fundraiser will directly fund trauma recovery therapy sessions for Courtney and Hannah, enabling them to receive the professional care and support they need to heal and move forward from this deeply traumatic experience.
