Heading to Ukrainian Border to Assist
Donation protected
My name is James Shaw and I work for the UN (have been with the UN for 27 years) and am based in Brussels. My work is not directly related to refugee assistance, although I used to work with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Accordingly, I am taking a week off and heading to the Ukrainian-Polish border next Tuesday (15 March) - I have rented a car and will be shuttling basic necessities to those crossing the border (based on their expressed or likely needs) for several days.
I can afford the flight (about USD 400), car rental (currently not too expensive, about USD 170), but am asking any and all who wish to support to please do so (at this point, money is probably the best option). If you can support, just let me know; if not, that is fine as well - no obligation at all.
I presume I will be buying, before getting to the border, foodstuffs, blankets, sleeping bags (bringing as much as I can with me) - probably some toys as well to provide kids I meet with some degree of calm, normalcy, much-needed distraction. I will keep track of the expenses and let everyone know where the money is going. Will try to take a couple of photos of some of those helped, so that those contributing will know to whom the support is going, and know that any support is indeed getting to those who actually need it.
Have started this GoFundMe page (first time doing so) at the suggestion of friends.
Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated. I will of course try to keep all supporters posted with updates.
