Hello, my name is Jose Colchado and I am speaking here on behalf of my dad, Filadelfo.
A few days ago, my dad was detained by ICE and separated from my family while I was in Washington, D.C. for a mathematics conference, working to secure graduate school opportunities and advocate for improved educational funding in Texas at Capitol Hill. He was stopped by a trooper because his center high mount stop lamp was broken, and not even two minutes later, ICE came to detain him. Besides this minor misdemeanor, he has no criminal charges and does his best to help those around him. Words cannot explain the heartbreak of seeing someone you love getting ripped away from you in an instant. It is frustrating seeing him be treated like a criminal when all he ever did was try to make a living and find better opportunities for his family.
Because of him, I found the strength to stay in school, keep going, and become the first in my family to graduate from college. He pushes me to be a better version of myself and a contributing member of society. He is also deeply loved by everyone who knows him, so watching him be taken from his community and locked away has left us all devastated. However, we are determined to fight for his freedom, which is why we need your help!
Right now, my father is facing a long and uncertain legal battle to stay with his family. The overall fees for the federal lawyer are approximately $8,500. His lawyer has high hopes that we can get him out of the detention center through habeas corpus. But, we can't take the first step without raising the legal funds. Every dollar raised will go directly to my father’s legal defense to support him and bring him home.

Aparte de esta infracción menor, no tiene antecedentes penales y siempre se esfuerza por ayudar a quienes lo rodean. No hay palabras para describir el dolor de ver a un ser querido ser arrebatado de tu lado en un instante. Es frustrante verlo ser tratado como un criminal cuando lo único que siempre ha hecho es trabajar para ganarse la vida y buscar mejores oportunidades para su familia.
Gracias a él, encontré la fuerza para seguir estudiando y convertirme en el primero de mi familia en graduarme de la universidad. Él me impulsa a ser una mejor persona y un miembro productivo de la sociedad. También es muy querido por todos los que lo conocen, así que verlo ser alejado de su comunidad y encarcelado nos ha dejado a todos devastados.
