Help Save Greg’s Home!

My Uncle Greg and beloved Inkopah Spirit Retreat are in trouble…

In the year 2000, my Uncle Greg purchased 10 acres in the In-Ko-Pah (Jacumba) Mountain Wilderness with the vision to not only live off-the-grid, but to also create a natural place of retreat, restoration and healing for himself and others. Over the past decade Uncle Greg built his home and brought his vision for Inkopah Spirit Retreat to fruition, building it little by little as he was able to save and acquire funds.

Inkopah Spirit Retreat is a place of incredible beauty in the In-Ko-Pah mountains and includes vistas as far as the Salton Sea to the north and El Centro to the east. The backdrop to Inkopah Spirit is “Table Mountain” - a place of special reverence for The Kumeyaay, who have inhabited the area perhaps for as long as 2,000 years.

Over the years many groups and individuals have stayed at Inkopah Spirit for retreats or just to camp, hike and reconnect with nature and Spirit. Groups like the Being Alive Peer Advocacy and Clinicas De Salud Del Pueblo outreach program, women's groups, meditation groups and filmmakers have chosen this place for its unique beauty and soul.

Sadly, Greg is now at risk of losing it all! Greg has been told by the county that he must go through an expensive process of getting his strawbale home and guest house permitted. Many in this “off-the-grid” community built their homes years ago without awareness of the need to permit properties, properties that cost the county nothing in terms of resources and services.

Please help save Inkopah Spirit - a place of beauty, peace, power, and rejuvenation. If we can’t save it, Greg, a low income senior citizen and Navy Veteran who has dedicated his life to service, activism, and community organizing - will be forced to demolish the buildings and find somewhere else to live out his years.

Thank You!
