Hout Bay Masks4All Project
Donation protected
The World Heath Organization (WHO) has declared the Covid-19 crisis a global pandemic and recently advised on the importance of the use of nonmedical masks by the general population. To that end, we are collecting funds to use towards purchasing masks for our front line workers and the most vulnerable members of the Hout Bay community.
Hout Bay is located near Cape Town, South Africa, one of countries with the highest levels of inequality in the world. Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg are two large townships within the Hout Bay community that together house an estimated 55,000 people living in tin shacks or cramped tiny houses, most with no access to running water, adequate medical services, or ability to "social distance."
Given the impact that Covid-19 has already had in other parts of the world, we believe it is imperative that we supply free reusable cloth masks to these vulnerable members of our community as a means to slow down the spread of the virus and to save lives.
To date, we have already supplied approximately 2,000 free masks and an additional 1,000 are ready to go out. Below is a sample of some of the masks we've already made and distributed along with education on how to use and clean them:

As we know from other countries, the spread of this virus is exponential. Now that the first case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in Imizamo Yethu we know that we are in a race against time to flatten the curve.
Now we need $5,000 to scale up production and distribution of masks to reach the next big project milestone of donating 7,000 masks.
Please support us - any amount welcome!
