Hi everyone, my name is Ingrid Wagner and, along with Stephen Moore, we are raising funds to help start up Haywoods Repair Cafe in mid Staffordshire, serving the communities of Colwich, Little & Great Haywood and their three adjacent villages plus their outlying settlements of Wolseley Bridge, Bishton, Moreton and Shugborough.
We are aiming to repair broken household items, to stop the 'take, make, use & waste' linear economy and contribute to a circular one, keeping products in use for longer and preventing them from going to landfill, so reducing waste.
We have a team of 16 volunteers who have skills across electrics/electronics/IT/woodwork and soft textiles, all keen to get started to help save the planet, one repair at a time. They will also help to create a space for community engagement and education, making the Repair Cafe a valuable resource for both individuals where it may reduce loneliness and combat social isolation, and the environment.
We have worked hard over 4 months to get all our policies and a Constitution in place and we have an effective publicity campaign underway to let the community know that we can make a difference to how they manage their lives.
We have received a small amount of funding to help us get started. The Repair Cafe will become self sufficient in the future through donations on repaired items and we now need to raise the following to enable us to open what we see as this vital resource both for our world and for our community.
We are raising funds for:
- a PAT testing machine, to ensure the safety & compliance of electrical equipment used and to inspect & test electrical appliances to ensure they are safe to use after being repaired
- 1 year's insurance includes Employer's Liability & Public + Products Liability
- 6 months hall booking fees to ensure we can start to operate without this financial pressure
