Haywood’s Hope

Haywood’s Hope was started in March when Covid-19 changed our everyday lives. One evening as I was driving through downtown Mobile , my husband and I noticed the extreme influx in homeless citizens and decided to go and pickup meals from several restaurants and give them out to the homeless. We handed out over 50 in less than an hour. On the way home, I decided I wanted to take them breakfast the following morning and we did just that. After talking to many of them that morning, I felt like we needed to take something besides food so I started making “blessing bags” and taking them each week as well. Each week, since March, we have taken hot meals and bags every Saturday night and Sunday morning.
The bags we make have food and hygiene kits and any other items they may have requested or need. They include 8-12 food items, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, soap or body wash, mouthwash, lotion, wipes and other needed items. We also provide clothing, shoes, blankets and jackets thy are donated by our friends and community .  On Sundays, I take names down on a list for the gentleman to stay at the Waterfront Mission and call to pay the $10 a night charge for those who ask to be on the list. 

We have gotten to know so many of these precious homeless citizens and want to continue to help them in any way that wecan. They depend on us being there each weekend and we haven’t missed a single one since March! 

As you can imagine, the cost of this project each week is not cheap so we are reaching out to our friends and community tohelp us continue to bless these friends and help them. On average, it costs around $950-$1100 each week to cover the costof everything we provide to them. 

Haywoods Hope has seen so much love from our community that we are hoping to continue this mission into the new year! But we need your help!!!!

We have done two Facebook fundraisersthat were such a huge help in continuing our mission, but they have both ended. The funds we raised are almost gone and we are asking our friends to continue to help by sharing this fundraiser and donating so that we can keep taking care of ourhomeless friends!!!!!
