HATTS OFF TO GEORGE

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jess, and I’m the proud big sister of George Hatt.
George was just 24 years old, a Winchester lad born and bred in Stanmore, with the biggest heart and the most infectious laugh.

Back in November 2023, George began suffering from severe headaches and was prescribed strong medication to manage them. When things didn’t improve, he was referred for an MRI scan in early 2024. Just two days after his scan, our world was turned upside down when doctors told us that George had a brain tumour the size of an orange.

George faced brain surgery on 29th April 2024, and although he recovered incredibly well from the operation, his vision deteriorated due to the tumour’s position. On 14th May, our family received the heartbreaking news that George had been diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma – an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer.

Even after being told the prognosis – an average life expectancy of just 18 months – George showed nothing but courage, humour, and love. He never stopped smiling or making others laugh, even on his toughest days.

During his illness, George made it his mission to live life to the fullest while helping others. Together, we created Hatt’s off to George, for George’s bucket list — a mix of fun adventures and meaningful goals — and he went on to raise money and awareness for charity, even while undergoing treatment. His incredible strength and positivity were recognised publicly on TV, radio, and in local papers, and one of our proudest moments together was switching on the Winchester Christmas Lights, something that meant so much to both of us.

Sadly, George passed away in 2025, leaving a huge hole in our lives and in the hearts of everyone who knew him. But his strength, humour and kindness continue to inspire us every single day.

In George’s memory, we are now raising funds for two incredible charities that supported him and our family throughout his journey:
The Brain Tumour Charity – funding vital research, awareness, and support for families facing this devastating disease.
Mountbatten Hampshire – providing exceptional hospice and community care, helping patients and their families through the most difficult times with compassion and dignity.

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. They reduce life expectancy by an average of 27 years – the highest of any cancer – and yet research into them remains severely underfunded.

By donating, you’ll be helping to continue George’s legacy — funding care, research, and hope for others who are facing the same diagnosis.

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and for helping us keep George’s spirit alive.

It’s what George would have wanted.
— Jess, George’s Big Sister xxxx
