Hate-Free Dormont Sign Campaign

I started Hate-Free Dormont because I felt like I needed to do something to ensure that Dormont remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive neighborhood for all people regardless of race, religion, nationality, disability, immigration status, or gender or sexual identity.  Like many people, I’ve felt that our country is now more divided than ever.  I feel strongly that hatred and violence are not the way to unite communities.  Instead, I wanted to focus on a project that many people could stand behind, regardless of party affiliation:  making our communities safe and loving places for our children to grow up in.  I wanted to start a yard sign campaign because I think it’s important that all of the children in our community see that we are united and committed to a hate-free community.  Children need to know that they are safe.  They need to know that their friends and loved ones are safe.  And they need to learn early that violence and prejudice are not acceptable behavior.  

But hate-free Dormont isn’t just about our children.  It’s also about us - we need to lead by example.  Together, we can change our community for the better.  Although we may disagree on some issues, we can be role models for the next generations by standing united in our vision of an accepting and welcoming community.  

In just a few short weeks, our group has grown to more than 120 neighbors strong.  I have been overwhelmed by the support the project has received.  I also want to give particular recognition to Renee Horner, who patiently helped to design the yard sign and flyer graphics.  With your support, we hope to order 100 yard signs, which will be distributed free of charge to any neighbor that would like one.  We will also be ordering 500 flyers to help spread the word about this project.  Our flyers have been generously donated by CDI Printing in Gibsonia, PA.   All funds raised will go directly to the cost of the project and we are only asking for what we need to cover the printing and fundraising costs.  Every little bit counts and your support is so greatly appreciated.
