Hastings Residents Evicted by Police

Donation protected
The Stop the Sweeps Coalition is collecting funds to support residents in the wake of the horrific decampment of the Hastings Tent City.

All funds go towards replacing tents and belongings stolen by the City of Vancouver and supporting residents to find shelter.

See statement on decampment here:

On Wednesday, April 5th at 9 am, approximately 100 VPD officers blocked off Hastings Street to begin the violent eviction of the entire Hastings Encampment. Residents of the neighbourhood, media, legal observers, and lawyers were denied access to the exclusion zone. City sanitation workers and police proceeded to dismantle every tent along the Hastings strip, indiscriminately stealing peoples' possessions and throwing them in garbage trucks. Several people were arrested in the course of decampment, including elderly neighbourhood residents. None of the residents were offered housing because there is no housing available. Residents were told to stay in shelters; community organizers called every site on the shelter list and were informed there are just 2 shelter beds currently available.

As of 3 o'clock today, all of the unhoused people who lived in community in the Hastings encampment for months—among friends and family, with access to neighbourhood services–have nowhere to go.

Homes not jails, homes not sweeps, homes not cops.
