WE BOUGHT A CAR!
A 2007 Volvo Xc70 for $3500! By this point, after some minor repairs, certification, and a hefty tax bill, total cost at the moment, is $4950.
Our New Stage 2 goal is being set at $6500
Yes, the new vehicle is on the road. We are floating the maintenance on our line of credit and moving forward with asking for those of you who feel led, to partner with us in funding the maintenance of the new vehicle.
As explained in our initial campaign we really need this car to be reliable. This is the main focus of stage 2. After having the car looked over by a mechanic we’ve come up with a list of preventative measures that need to take place. Fortunately, the overall condition of this vehicle is excellent and we have an amazing foundation to work on.
Primary concerns
Slight oil leak on a Cam Shaft seal.
- It’s not major very slow leak but the seal needs to be replaced.
Blower fan.
- This is the fan that blows heat or cold air inside the car. Currently the heat and cold work, but we can’t move it. Therefore we don’t have heat on the cold days, or cold on the hot days. So we need to replace the fan motor.
Rims and Tires
- Currently rolling on 16 inch black steel rims, trying to get back on to OEM size of 17
- With new or fresh non worn tread.
Coolant lines are old
- The original coolant lines are still working on the car, but the old rubber is starting to crack and we would like to replace them with new lines. Simple job, but a bit of work.
Full Fluid Flush
- Transmission fluid, Coolant, AWD Fluid, angle gear, and of course oil.
- Flush and change all of these fluids at the same time so we know the history and life length of the fluid.
Trailer hitch
- A trailer adds triple the amount of cargo space, hence the desire for a trailer.
- A class 3 hitch is needed for this, we’ve found a universal class 3 that fits the vehicle with minor modification.
- We also need the Wiring harness.
A Trailer
- If you would like to buy a 6 to 8 foot covered trailer for Hashtag Hope please email Nick or Hashtag Hope. In the mean time we can rent a small covered trailer through U-haul.
Sway Bars
- Sway bars add strength and stability to the vehicle especially if we are pulling a trailer. IPD makes a hd Sway bar kit for our vehicle and whether we are loaded up with cargo or pulling a loaded trailer having more control is key.
Air Conditioning leak
- Need to track and repair a Freon leak in the air condition system.

It’s time to admit what has been long denied, the 1998 Volvo that Hashtag Hope has been using to travel absolutely everywhere, and we mean everywhere has officially been decommissioned.

Yeah that’s right.. Hashtag Hope is car-less and stranded.

Hashtag Hope has a lot of growth ahead of it. Ambition could not be higher. Our ability to be remote and arrive is crucial to this growth plan. Meaning, a car is very important if not 100% a need for the work of the project.

For the past year, I (Nick) have been working two jobs to try and save for an upgraded and reliable vehicle that will act as an investment in the future of Hashtag Hope. It has not been a fun year but I’ve learned a whole lot about my desire to see this project move forward. I was able to save a few thousand for the car and a few thousand for operating capitol. I also treated the time as a forced sabbatical from the grind and demand of Hashtag Hope. (I’m writing more about this over the coming weeks) As of the beginning of 2019, it’s time to be back and be better. We (Hashtag Hope) can be bigger and more effective than ever. We know more, we’ve grown more, we see more. It’s time to do more. Ambition is high and determination is at the ready.
We need a vehicle. And we can't move forward without your support.

$1500 investment (Towing, taxes, needs to pass safety)
If we have success with this campaign, It would be great to rebuild the transmission, do the head gasket, and purchase a full new set of tires. If we go above and beyond we will purchase a small trailer to go with the vehicle. If you would like to support any of these in specific way that can most certainly be arranged.

^^ Here is what my bed inside the car looked like as I was touring Hashtag Hope across Canada. My feet go in the trunk. I would move boxes to the front seats at night to make enough space. The new vehicle should have loads more space than this. ^^

An overlooked behemoth of a vehicle. All Wheel Drive, 210HP, The ability to work on the engine if needed, LOADS OF SPACE, 10L per 100km high, low insurance, safe car. Small trailer capabilities. And it fits the budget of 5 thousand up and running.

It has repair needs in order to pass safety, but not impossible.
It's worth at least $300 in scrap. We could also pool money together and get it passed safety and then give it to a family who needs a car.
But that's a different fundraiser for another time I would say.
