Alas de Agua Cultural Center is the only space on the southside of Santa Fe that is completely run by and for People of Color, Native, Immigrant, Queer Artists. Being that New Mexico is a majority minority state there should be many more similar orgs already existing in the vicinity. What began as the New Mexico Mural Project quickly blossomed into a vibrant collective, offering poetry, art, monologue, and mural workshops. Over the past decade, Alas de Agua has become a sanctuary for creativity, healing, and cultural exchange, empowering countless People of color, Native, Immigrant, Queer leaders through resources and mentorship.
As we approach our ten-year anniversary, we are at a pivotal moment in our story. Gentrification has threatened many grassroots institutions, and too often, People of Color spaces do not survive beyond a decade because they lack ownership of their buildings and land base. We have seen the impact of our work—artists finding their voices, community members coming together to heal, and new leaders emerging from our programs. Now, we are seeking your support to secure a permanent home for Alas de Agua Cultural Center, so we can continue to nurture creativity, foster healing, and build a legacy for future generations.
Your support will help us create a lasting space where art, farming, and holistic healing can thrive. Together, we can ensure that Alas de Agua remains a beacon of hope and empowerment for our community, now and for years to come. Please join us in making this vision a reality.
