As we enter this holiday season, we continue to witness the devastating impact of COVID-19 on our local community. Our city has been no exception to the disparities observed nationally – the virus continues to disproportionately impact our most vulnerable neighbors, with severe disparities seen in infection and mortality rates , the impact on children’s education , and a rapidly worsening economic and eviction crisis .
Our moral responsibility to our neighbors as an anchor institution is made even more clear in such times of crisis. In light of this, we ask that you please consider supporting the HMS Racial Justice Coalition and Student Council's first annual Holiday Season Fundraising Campaign.*
All proceeds from our fundraising this year will go to our community partner the Action for Boston Community Development 's (ABCD) Winter Emergency Fund –
Winter can be a crisis for many low-income families. The escalating cost of living along with the bitter cold weather of New England weighs heavy on households struggling to meet basic needs of food, shelter, heat, and warm clothing. The ABCD Winter Fund ensures that families can stay safe and warm as the bitter cold hits the region and the holiday season commences.
Your generous donation will help provide a holiday meal, blankets, warm clothing, and other winter essentials to families in the nearby neighborhoods of Mission Hill, Roxbury, and other local communities.
Thank you very much for any support you are able to provide. As we continue to re-imagine what our healthcare system may look like in a post-COVID world, we hope you will join us in re-imagining the role of HMS in our community and the unique opportunities we all have to serve.
