HELP!
As many of you know, my name is Mike Harland and I like to do as much as I can for people. Most of that is in our local community, but a while back I was inspired by a friend of mine, Subhaan, who helped build water wells in Pakistan.
First, just imagine if you didn't have access to clean water or just water in general? Many of us have never thought about that because it's always just been piped into our homes. Nice clean cold water to drink & warm water to shower in. Taking a road trip - then we've got endless bottles of water that we only drink half of and then toss in the garbage. It's always just been accessible and a part of our lives.
But for many, that isn't a reality. Here are some stats:
- As a low estimate, Unicef reports 829,000 people die each year from diseases directly attributable to unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene practices.
- Other organizations place that number at 1.7 to 2.2 million people, with this number being made up of mostly children and other vulnerable populations.
- An estimated 3.6 billion people – half of the world's population – still lack safe sanitation at home.
- 1.8 billion people live in homes without safe drinking water.
The good news, though, is that we can make a difference. I've found a non profit organization that uses 100% of the funds it receives to provide aid through necessary items for survival, food, and what I'm raising funds for - building wells throughout communities in Pakistan.
I have set a goal to raise funds for 3 deep water wells that will continuously provide safe drinking water for up to a total of almost 1,000 people. The total cost for this will be a little less than $2,000 and I'm asking that all of my friends & colleagues help me help these communities.
Here's how you can help; drop cash off to me (I'll come pick it up too), write a check to me with "Water Well Donation" written in the "For" line or donate to this Go Fund Me link. For those that decide to help, I'll be sharing the entire journey of this with you.
