Harambe for Scola

Donation protected
There are people in this world that have the ability to light up a room with joy.  It's the kind of personality that crosses any sort of cultural or language barrier that might exist, it can run on 2 hours of sleep and still come in with an endless well of selflessness, willingness, and energy.  Scola is this kind of person.

Scola grew up in rural Kenya and had two kids by the time she was 20. Soon after her husband left her, her older sister passed away, leaving Scola to help raise her four nieces and nephews. The years progressed and Scola worked tirelessly to keep everyone afloat.

In 2015, Scola pursued a green card via a lottery program and got one!  She moved to the Seattle area where she has some extended family, quickly got her CNA certification and started nannying as well.

We were so excited when Scola became available and agreed to be our nanny!!  We've been blessed to have her join our family each week for nearly two years, but as our kids are getting older, we knew we couldn't keep Scola forever.   In the next couple weeks Scola won't be Madi and Dakota's nanny anymore.  They are headed to a daycare, and Madi will start pre-k in the fall.  Scola currently has a second nanny job with a family in West Seattle and they've eagerly agreed to give her more hours...because when word gets out that Scola is available, a line forms pretty quickly.

Right now Scola is currently putting the youngest of her 3 kids through high school and college back home, and building her aging parents a home (and it's expected to be finished this year!)

In Swahili, Harambe means "to pull together".  Scola is the glue that holds so much together and she does it with more joy, gratitude, energy, excellence, and selflessness than anyone I have ever met in my life.  I mean that.

We want to do our little part in pulling together to bless Scola the way that she blesses so many other people.  We would like to gift Scola with $3,000 when she leaves.  This could be used for school fees for her kids, to finish some small projects on her parent's house, or a ticket home to see her family.

Linnea and I will kick off the campaign with $1,000.  Our minimum goal is $3,000 and we are committed to making that happen, but if we all pull together, who knows, maybe we could knock her socks with even more.  Send your gift by March 4th!

PS - if you want to venmo (or whatever digital method you prefer) to avoid little go-fund me fees, just let me know.  I will update the campaign with progress.
