Hang Tough for Heidi

Dear Friends and Family,

TL;DR—We are raising money to help Mom manage her ongoing care expenses, and we are humbly asking you to contribute to the GoFundMe: Hang Tough for Heidi. All donations will go toward non-discretionary expenses for Mom, like transportation to and from the hospital, uncovered medical expenses, groceries, hair loss expenses (i.e., haircuts to touch up patches), etc. We can’t thank you enough for your support for our mom throughout this journey so far, and we appreciate you considering giving even more. We are reaching out to let you know that we are kicking off a campaign to help support our mother, Heidi. In mid-July 2023, Mom started having trouble reading simple words. She tried to read a few words to her dear friend Dru, who immediately said “I’m taking you to the doctor!” A quick trip to Mount Sinai led to a visit to a neurologist and an immediate MRI. Within five days, Heidi underwent surgery to remove a Grade 4 glioblastoma. This was the beginning of a life-altering journey for Heidi and her loved ones.

The surgeons did their best to remove as much of the tumor as they could but the aggressive nature of glioblastoma means there is a strong chance it may grow back. Mom continues to work hard to get through this, but it can be a grind. She still experiences brain fog, has trouble reading or comprehending, and sometimes can’t recall the right words—despite being able to visualize exactly what she’s thinking of.

Her motto has always been: “glass overflowing,” not just half-full. The cancer diagnosis came out of nowhere, yet her desire to continue living an overflowing and grateful life has not changed. Heidi is an amazing mother and a true friend to so many. If you know her, you have experienced the unique energy that radiates from her. She has a way of turning a bad day into a good day. She has taught us about resilience in the face of adversity, and about finding joy and love in life every day.
