Handicap ramp for Hickory Trail dune crossover.
Donation protected
HI,
My name is Len Schmitz, and I am raising funds to include a handicap ramp at the Hickory Trail dune crossover in Southern Shores. The Southern Shores Civic Association replaces a few of the crossovers every year, and Hickory is slated to be replaced soon. I have been helping build these crossovers for the last few years, including the handicapped ramp at Chickhauk Trail. I would like the new crossover to include a handicapped ramp similar that one. They only have funds for the new decking, and stairs. Adding a handicap ramp would be an additional $10,000 to $15,000 . The cost of of lumber and labor has really gone up. This ramp will be similar to the one we built a few years ago at Chicahauk trail, (pictures below) , and will be ADA compliant.
I have a friend who owns a house on Hickory, and she has some serious health issues, which make climbing stairs difficult. There are a few other people in the area who are older, and could use this crossover also. They will greatly benefit with this ramp installed, and they will be able to visit the beach more often. The ramp will also help families with children, strollers, beach wagons, fishing wagons, etc..
Please consider donating $10. $20. $50. $100. or whatever you can. It is a worthy cause. The crossovers are owned by the Southern Shores Civic Association, and they have given approval for this fundraiser. Their funds are limited, and don't have the extra money in the budget. Although parking may be a problem, Southern Shores does not restrict the use, and they are open for everyone to use.
Thank you for your donation.
