Hamro Ekiden 2024 for Mira Rai Initiative

This year Hamro Ekiden fundraising campaign will be supporting the Mira Rai initiative.

Our event is scheduled to take place in Folkestone Nepalese Community Centre, Kent, on the 16th and 17th August 2024.

About Mira Rai Initiative

A non-profit organisation based in Nepal founded by the Ultra trail running queen, Mira Rai. The organisations promote and support trail running and its community, especially among female athletes. The organisation provides opportunities and empowers all young athletes mainly, those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds to chase their trail running dreams in Nepal.

This year the project for building the Training Centre Camp has commenced. Nonetheless, this will be their first solid base where they can accommodate and train young athletes to their full potential; tailored approach to the training and skill-based training. A training centre not only develops future professional athletes but also promotes trail running within the Nepalese community and more importantly, health and fitness.

Health and Fitness within the Nepalese community is not a common concept and it should be advocated as much as possible. One of these ways is by helping Mira Rai build her training centre and her legacy. This shall be the first step of many to raise awareness. About the event

The fundraising campaign is a challenge that consists of a half marathon relay for over 24 hours. Runners will be performing a relay half marathon throughout the day and night. Runners will be running in pairs or groups. After the completion of the run the ‘baton’ will be passed on to the next wave to start their run.

Originally the idea came from Hakone Ekiden. The event is annually held in Japan. Universities from across Japan come to compete in a relay half marathon where 10 runners from each team/universities compete to run a total distance of roughly 220km. This is one of the most unique sporting events, involving everyone's combined efforts as a team.

Using this as inspiration we have organised our event but with a twist!
