Hello, my name is Sam Kimball and I am a Middle East and North Africa-focused journalist. I live in Warwick, NY, USA.

I am trying to raise $500 for a friend and colleague, Hamida*, undergoing a genocide in Gaza, so she may buy a new cell phone. Hamida is a 26-year-old former bussiness school student living in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City in Gaza with her parents and extended family. I know Hamida after having interviewed her for an article I recently published.

Hamida's current phone is only semi-functional, and smart phones are Gazans' only connection with the outside world as they are besieged, starved and bombed to death. With zero anything getting into Gaza under the siege sinc March 2nd, prices for everything are astronomical, thus the high price for phones.

Our hope is that with a decent smartphone, that she can collect images, videos and interviews to be sold to and published in international media, including on my Substack news page (https://substack.com/@samontheroad). I hope to then collect what money I can from subscriptions, and send that money to her so she can buy what little food and supplies exist for her family. Likewise, fees for content she provides for articles in international media will be sent to her to buy basic supplies for her family.
