Heave the Beave - NO to Bucees in Oak Creek
Donation protected
"Oak Creek Neighbors United" has to formed to ensure that quality of life, safety and environment is made a priority for the residents of Oak Creek.
This is not a done deal! Please come to the next City Council Meeting, held on May 20th! It's important to keep showing up and voicing your concerns!
In fact, non-profit "Oak Creek Neighbors United" (OCNU) has retained legal cousel. The non-profit group has recently filed a lawsuit against the city of Oak Creek for the improper rezoning. The amendments made to the Oak Creek Comprehensive Plan and rezoning violates several Wisconsin State Statues, which was done for the sole purpose for Buc-ees to be developed. Visit www.OakCreekNU.Org to view the legal filings, as well as additional information.
All fundraising will be used to pay for legal fees and other costs that support the ongoing efforts to stop this.
Please help support this cause to cover legal fees to help advocate for our community and environmental concerns as Oak Creek leaders continue to sell out our city for corporate greed. This development will have life long significant impacts to the health of the people and animals that have to live next to 120 pumps of fuel and run off into our ground water.
Storybook Farms is directly adjacent to the proposed development - the fuel run off will poison their horses. The 24-7 light pollution will stress out the chickens and cause significant health problems.
The residential homes are 0.1 miles from this proposed development. There is an American Journal of Health Study that shows those that live less than one mile proximity to hazards like gas stations increases the risk of cancers, asthma and other major health problems.
Protect our watershed! The Root River is about 500 feet from this development is certain to pollute and damage our waterways. Our fish and wildlife will be significantly harmed. The Root River drains into Lake Michigan and will have downstream effect to all communities.
Even if this does not personally impact you - if we ran a city where we only cared if it personally impacted us then our community as a whole is domed. We have just set a precedent that we have no moral compass or boundaries to protect others that live here. One development at a time, each district will face a proposal that won't impact the other 5. The majority vote will always swing in favor of those whose quality of life will NOT be forever diminished. The danger and inaction and failure to stand up for others even when it's unpopular or inconvenient breeds a community where no one is safe from harm.
*Any residual funds will be donated back to the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District
The Oak Creek, WI community is more than just a place; it is our home. The very essence of our community is under imminent threat by the proposed development of a Buc-ee's travel center and 120-pump gas station next to our residential areas. This project has been rejected by many states (North Carolina, Texas, West Virgina, Colorado) throughout the United States as the burden of this Texas corporation will fall on the city taxpayers.
The depreciation of homes in the immediate area, increased traffic congestion that disrupts quality of life (constant gridlock), increased crime, and the existing oversaturation of gas stations in our area that will cause blight, and most importantly, detrimental health and environmental impact to families, animals and Root River.
This Texas Corporation is expecting 13,000 visitors daily. That is the same volume of people to fill a sold out concert at the Fiserv Forum!
They expect traffic not only from Chicago area and beyond but also Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha county with no plan on how to direct traffic through our small local roads. 12,000 vehicles per day will be competing for 600 parking spaces.
