Hal’s Heroes: One little girl. One incredible community. One life-changing mission.

Meet Halena.

Halena is a little girl from the East Coast of Canada who is living with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a rare, progressive genetic disease that affects the nervous system and can make everyday activities increasingly difficult.

While most children are growing, playing, and dreaming about what they’ll be when they grow up, Halena and her family are facing challenges that no child or parent should have to navigate.

Friedreich’s Ataxia affects coordination, balance, mobility, and muscle strength. There is currently no cure.

Hal was diagnosed 3 years ago at the age of 7 with Friedreich's Ataxia after symptoms developed as a toddler. As her condition has progressed, she has become dependent on a wheelchair. Unfortunately, her chair will not fit in the hallway or through the doors of her home. Hal's Mom has carried her from her bedroom to the washroom to the kitchen to the livingroom... But as Hal [now in fifth grade] grows, that has become increasingly challenging and will only get harder until it becomes impossible, and let's be honest; this young lady fights this condition every second of every day out in the world, and she deserves as much independence and normalcy as possible in her own home.

While we can’t take away Halena’s diagnosis, we CAN help make her everyday life safer, easier, and more comfortable.

And that’s exactly why Hal’s Heroes was created.

Our mission is to help renovate Halena’s family home to better accommodate her changing needs. Most importantly, if Hal’s home doesn’t get the renovation it needs, she will be forced to go and live in a special care home without her Mom who has always taken care of her.

A major part of this project involves building a brand-new bedroom and bathroom designed with Halena’s accessibility, comfort, and future needs in mind.

For many of us, having a bedroom and bathroom that meet our needs is something we rarely think twice about.

For Halena, these spaces can mean so much more.

Greater independence as she grows.

A safer, more accessible environment.

More comfort and dignity in her everyday routines.

Less physical strain on her mom as she cares for her.

A home that can better adapt to the challenges ahead.

No worry that she will ever have to live a single day without her mom’s hugs when she wakes up or before she goes to sleep.

Every child deserves a home where they can feel safe, comfortable, and supported. Halena is no exception.

❤️ An Incredible Community Has Already Stepped Up

One of the most beautiful parts of this journey has been watching people come together for a little girl who needs our help.

Local businesses, tradespeople, volunteers, friends, family members, and complete strangers have already demonstrated what can happen when a community decides to make a difference.

Generous businesses have donated their time, expertise, labour, and materials.

Fundraising events have brought people together.

Countless individuals have contributed in ways both big and small.

Construction has officially begun!

The groundwork is complete and engineered helical piles that will support Halena’s new bedroom and bathroom have already been installed.

It’s a HUGE milestone and relief to Hal’s Mom, knowing we are making progress toward her keeping her baby girl at home with her!

But there is still much more work to be done.

And that’s where YOU come in. We need your help to finish what we’ve started.

Building an accessible addition is a significant undertaking, and despite the extraordinary generosity we’ve already received, there are still expenses ahead.

Funds raised through this GoFundMe campaign will help cover the remaining costs associated with Halena’s home renovation, including:

Building materials and construction expenses.

Accessibility features and modifications.

A bathroom designed to accommodate Halena’s needs.

️ A comfortable, accessible bedroom (designed and decorated just for her).

Professional services, equipment, and other essential renovation costs.

Every dollar raised will help us move closer to completing a home that better supports Halena and her family.

Whether you can give $5, $25, $100, or simply share this campaign, you can be one of Hal’s Heroes.

Being a hero isn’t about how much you give.

It’s about choosing to make a difference.

You Don’t Have to Know Halena to Be Her Hero

You don’t have to live in our community.

You don’t have to know her family.

You don’t even have to have heard of Friedreich’s Ataxia before today.

You just have to believe that one little girl deserves every opportunity to live as safely, comfortably, and independently as possible.

You just have to agree that her Mom deserves the peace-of-mind that her child will never have to be without her.

You just have to decide that you are going to help make it happen.

Imagine being part of the reason a mother can care for her daughter more easily.

Imagine helping create a bedroom where a little girl can feel comfortable and secure.

Imagine knowing that something as simple as a donation or a share helped make that possible.

That’s the difference YOU can make today.

Help Us Bring Halena’s New Space to Life

We’re already seeing what an incredible community can accomplish.

We’ve watched businesses step forward without hesitation.

We’ve seen people give generously, volunteer their time, and rally behind this family.

And now we’re inviting YOU to become part of Halena’s story.

Here’s how you can help:

DONATE: Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to our goal.

SHARE: Share this campaign with your friends, family, coworkers, and social media followers. You never know whose heart Halena’s story might touch.

FOLLOW: Stay connected as we share construction updates, celebrate milestones, and watch this incredible transformation unfold.

With your help, one day soon, we’ll be able to share the moment Halena gets to enjoy her beautiful new bedroom and bathroom.

When that day comes, every person who helped will know they played a part in making it happen.

Together, we can’t change Halena’s diagnosis. But we can change the home in which she faces it. We can make sure it’s in the home she has always lived with her Mom.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting Halena.

Every hero makes a difference. Today, you can be one of hers.
