Hall of Famer, Chris Hegg, Battles Brain Cancer

On January 11, 2021, Chris was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an inoperable brain cancer. This past year, Chris has fought this cancer with radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and wearing an optune helmet. Unfortunately, despite these treatments and Chris’s determination, cancer had progressed so rapidly that he is now in hospice. This year has been devastating for our family, as with any grave illness. Please help with medical and end-of-life expenses.

Chris was a Hudson, Iowa High School standout who excelled in football and basketball. Chris continued his football athletic career at the collegiate level (University of Northern Iowa, Independence Community College, Northeast Missouri State) and ended his football career by being drafted in the NFL by the Atlanta Falcons. Chris’s most memorable and treasured honors include:

1998 Inducted into the Truman State Athletic Hall of Fame

Chris was an exceptional athlete, but he was also a person of high character. He carried those character traits into his family and work. Chris has two beautiful, successful young daughters, of which he is very proud. Chris worked for Wiley Book Publishers, a company he loved and dedicated to for many years.

In 2019 Chris met the love of his life, his fiance, Vicki. Together they bought a house and began planning for a long and adventurous life. Vicki has impressive strength and faith. She has been a devoted partner and continues to be there, caring for Chris during this journey. We are so grateful for her love and care.

Family and friends would describe Chris as having a playful and adventurous spirit. A good friend and brother. Humble and kind. Thank you to all who keep Chris in their thoughts and prayers.
