(half) MARATHON FOR MUSANA - Sophie and Liv

Sophie and I hate running. And so naturally we decided to do a half marathon!

As a challenge and a discipline and a common goal to work towards before Sophie goes off to uni :( and I go off travelling :D.

Now obviously asides from the street credit gained from running the 21km, we wanted this run to mean something bigger than just that.
(Also if we do it for charity then we really do actually have to do it, you know?)

And so that leads us on to this..!
By clicking on this link you are already half way there, you might as well keep reading - in a world where it feels tough to make any positive difference - trust me, this is a way that you can.
...
Musana (which means sunshine) is a community development organisation and model located in several districts across Uganda.
...
In the Summer of 2023, I had the privilege of going out to visit the projects and it was transformational for me in so many ways.
Not only did it show me that there is so much joy and hope and life when you look for it, but it also made me realise that I was looking at life the wrong way...

It is so easy as westerners to think we know what everyone else needs, that we've got it right.
When in reality that White Saviour Mindset can cause so much harm, wasted funds, and a long-term dependency crisis.
And honestly? It is a hard pill to swallow , but also one important enough that we have to try.

This bring me back to Musana.

Musana's mission is to be entirely self sustainable, locally led and locally driven. Running schools and hospitals, restaurants and empowerment centres, that are centred round local ownership, dignity, self-sufficiency.

This is aid done right.

Your donations are like bricks, they build the infrastructure needed, but once the buildings are built, the local communities embrace them and fill them and turn them into thriving business models that are turning a profit that is poured directly back into the communities and local economy.
This is how countries are changed.

So, (I promise I'm nearly done), Sophie and I want to invite you to join with us in this fundraiser, making a run that we are both dreading, a powerful force for good.
You've read this far, so whether it is out of belief in this organisation or sympathy for Sophie and I,
please do give.

Thank you :)
