Haitian Farmers Irrigation systems

I've been so moved by so many people in Haiti. People sometimes ask why, when there are so many people closer to home that need help.  I say we are all different and are passionate about different things.  This is what I'm called for, and yes I volunteer other places also.  But for me I feel God has put me on this path.  I've made friends that are in great need.  This campaign is for a rural Haitian farming community.

My dear Haitian friend saw an opportunity where farmers wanted to plant but couldn't do anything due to the dry season.  This is in a rural area outside of Hinche Haiti.  His plan was to build a basin fed by a natural spring where the village could get water and the overflow water would go to his friends farm for irrigation.

The community was getting their water from  a pipe that was less than a foot off the ground.   The water would run on the ground causing a muddy slippery area. To make matters worse  farm animals would come  to get water while  leaving their  urine and feces behind.  The villagers  would come the the pipe,  place a bucket underneath and wait a few minutes to fill the bucket while a line would form for the next person.   Now people are coming to the basin on dry ground filling their buckets in no time.   They are so happy and thankful.  It's crazy good seeing smiles of faces.  People actually gather there and are seen hanging out in some of the videos.

The project got bigger as more farmers saw the benefits.  The possibilities for changing peoples lives by allowing for them to be self sufficient and feed so many others are awesome.  I'm asking for your support.  Not just to feed someone or provide temporary help but to allow for generational growth for multiple families and who knows where the literal ripples stop.

The plan is to build the larger basins and purchase piping to irrigate the farms.  All the work is being done by Haitians.  All the ideas on what to do and how to do it is by Haitians.  This project is happening because of faith in each other.  We have confidence  that it can be accomplished.  Some of the people like the masons are getting paid.    Some volunteer and are there daily,  working hard and actually refuse payment because they see the benefit.   My friend will hire a cook that will make food for all workers and their family members.  When there is enough food, children watching the work or coming to get water may also be fed.   Any product needed has to be brought in 1.5 miles by foot on small paths.  This includes cement and sand.   All for a meal.

I asked my friend why hasn't this been done before.  His response is that the people living here have never had any amount of money to make concrete let alone purchase piping. The  government or  NGO's and others have promised but have only done so for votes or other reasons and have always fallen short.  This is a hurting, forgotten community that needs any support you can give to make this irrigation system happen.  This is an ongoing project the funds will be sent on a biweekly basis.  There is no amount too large or small.   I am so blessed to be in a position to ask you for the help they need.
