This September, as many as 20 veterans and emergency services personnel, all beneficiaries of our programme, will walk Hadrian's Wall from coast to coast. 84 miles. 7 days. Together.

Heroic Hearts Project UK works with veterans and emergency services personnel actively addressing the mental health wounds of their service, finding routes to healing when conventional treatments have failed. The people walking Hadrian's Wall this September have done significant personal work. What they are seeking now is community, movement and time alongside people who understand without needing things explained.

The walk runs 84 miles along a 2,000-year-old Roman frontier, from Wallsend in Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway on the Solway Firth.

The walk is not a challenge event. It is not a fundraising stunt. It is an integration hike: seven days of movement, shared terrain and time alongside people who get it. Walking together, literally, does something that talking about it in a room often cannot.

For some participants, this kind of time in the company of their peers is rare. The camaraderie of shared experience, the ease of not having to justify yourself, the forward motion of putting one foot in front of the other in good company: the walk exists to offer all of that, away from clinical settings and formal structures.

A journalist from The Times will be walking with the group, documenting the experience. The story of who these people are, what they have been through, and what walking 84 miles together means will be told in full.

The hike is self-funded by participants. For most, the cost of travel and a week's accommodation is manageable. For some, it is a real barrier. Your donation helps make sure that no one who wants to walk is stopped by what it costs to get there.

We are raising £5,000. Every pound goes directly towards participant costs for the September 2026 hike. Any funds beyond what the hike requires will support HHPUK's wider operational work.

These are people who have given a great deal. They deserve the chance to continue to find ways to heal.
