Trail Maintenance

Stewards of the Sierra National Forest sole mission is to unite the many people who enjoy the diverse recreational activities available in the Sierra National Forest, promoting responsible recreation and use of forest resources, thru conservation and education, and ensuring public access to the forest in the present and for future generations.

Our work is focused on roads and trails that provide recreational opportunities and are critical to providing motorized access for Law Enforcement, Fire Personal, and the public.
Our completed projects have improved forest access and enhanced the recreational experience on the forest.

Our primary goals are to assist the Forest in providing road and trail maintenance activities to:
Improve general public access.
Reduce soil erosion.
Improve water quality.
Maintenance activities include:
Brushing for access.
Removal of downed trees.
Water drainage structure cleaning and repair.
Culvert cleaning.
Repair of water-bars.
Trash cleanup and removal.
Removal of road hazards.
Installation of route marker signs.
Installation of riprap energy dissipaters.
Road and trail condition surveys.

To this end, The Stewards have been recognized by the Forest Service in receiving the following awards:
2011 Sierra National Forest Volunteer Organization of the Year.
2011 Pacific Southwest Region Five Forest Service Volunteer
Organization of the Year.
2011 USDA National Forest Service Volunteer Organization of the Year.
2013 Sierra National Forest Volunteer Organization of the Year.
2013 Pacific Southwest Region Five Forest Service Volunteer Organization . of the year.
2018 Sierra National Forest Volunteer Organization of the Year.
