Hi, my name is Laura Bodle. I am 18 years old and currently on a gap year. During this year, I would like to make a difference by helping people. From March to April 2024, I have the opportunity to volunteer with a charity called Operation Mobilisation (OM).

The charity

Operation Mobilisation (OM) helps impoverished people around the world as well as spreading the love of Jesus. One of the projects that OM supports is based in Brazil. This project works with vulnerable children and teenagers in downtown Sao Paulo. They work in communities that have issues with drug trafficking, violence, unemployment and illiteracy. The project tries to help by reaching out to 700 children and teens every week.

What I will be doing

During the week, I will be volunteering as a teaching assistant helping students with English, Sport and Art classes. At the weekends, I will be assisting as a youth worker in a local church. I have always loved helping with children and young people because they have an optimistic view of life. Additionally I have some experience of nannying and leading a youth group at my church.

How much I need to raise

This mission trip is self funded and I need to raise £3,000 to cover flights and accommodation.

Why I want to volunteer

When I was eight years old, my family and I went to South Africa and we helped in orphanages and after-school clubs. Since then I've wanted to do whatever I can to help people who are struggling. My faith is very important to me so I hope that, while helping people, I can also share the love of Jesus.
