Haiti RN volunteer/ RN scholarship
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Valarie Lucas and I am a Registered Nurse. I have traveled to Haiti the past three years on mission trips volunteering in a medical clinic in Port Au Prince. My goal for gofundme is to raise $2500 for my next trip in July. All donations will go towards sending nurses to school in Haiti through a scholarship that I establised in May, 2014. Please note that it is $360 a year to go to nursing school in Haiti. You can help to make a difference!
In Haiti, people of all ages work tirelessly all day. As many as are able attend school at night in efforts to help rebuild their country. I asked my friend and Haitian nurse how much it was for her to go to school. Her response was $360 a year. In Haiti, most people live off less than a dollar a day. I know this expense to go to school is tremendously difficult and not possible without the help of others.
Moved by the people and country of Haiti, I decided to coordinate a 5K run/walk my senior year of college called The Race to Heal Haiti. Amazingly, my race raised $5,000 all of which went to four year scholarships for nurses in Haiti. October 2014, three young women began their careers as nursing students in Haiti.
Each morning outside the clinic where I volunteer, Haitians wait in line from 4am until the doors opened at 8am just to be seen. As the day goes on the line continues to grow. All medical conditions are addressed but commonly seen include malnutrition, trauma, diabetic complications, and cardiac events. I work side by side Haitian medical professionals to help care for patients. I also make a great effort to educated the staff and community on ways to prevent and treat the different types of medical conditions.
This gofundme is helping to serve the people of Haiti and giving you the ability to directly affect the life of an aspiring nurse. You will also help the family this future nurse will support and the community where he or she will serve. Please help to heal Haiti and contribute toward my cause. I appreciate any amount that you can give.
God bless,
Valarie
