Hi, my name is Allen Chan. My mother is hardworking and dedicated, raising two sons ever since my father left my family when I was young. My mom has been the foundation on which I was able to achieve my goals. I am raising money to help support my mom during these difficult financial times. In the fall of 2020, I discovered that my mom secretly asked close relatives and friends for personal loans to help start a business. Many of my family members provided money for her in hopes that she would be able to repay them afterwards. Unfortunately, my brother was the first to tell me that she was being scammed. The scammer contacted my mom through WeChat, convinced her that this was a legitimate business, and took advantage of my mom's financial difficulties. A few of my family members brought the news to her attention, but the damage was already done. The scammer lied to my mom for months that the business would generate passive income for her, saying she had to invest more money into it before she would ever receive payment. It became a vicious cycle where the scammer took more money than my mom could offer. As a son, no one wants to see their parents suffer. I watched my mom spiral from mental health issues for the last two years. I understand everyone was going through difficult times when the pandemic started, but to see my mom suffer in these previous two years has been unbearable to my family and myself. My brother, grandma, and I have been working to help pay off some of the personal loans she took. Currently, she is being pressured by multiple people to pay back all the money she was scammed out of.
