Help us replace stolen gear so we can continue supporting bold grassroots action
ReAction is a social movement support organization based in DC that works with a wide range of change making organizations to support bold action for transformative change. We help partners plan and execute direct action; we offer knowledge-based resources like ourGuide to Planning Actions in DC , meeting and event space directory , action planning maps, and forthcoming direct action training video series, and provide gear and equipment for movement actions and events.
Earlier this week a bunch of ReAction’s sound gear was stolen from our truck. We lost a pair of PA speakers, a pair of subwoofers, a mixer & wireless mic set, two toolboxes full of tools and a number of other smaller items. In total we estimate that the cost to replace what we’ve lost is about $4,000.
Supporting movement organizations with the gear to organize powerful actions is at the heart of what we do. While some of the larger national organizations we work with have the resources to pay for our time and equipment, we believe that grassroots groups should have access to the tools to pull off dynamic actions too. That’s why over the past year we’ve supported dozens of grassroots mobilizations at no cost.
We hope that by offering tools and support for movement organizations we’re creating a more democratic organizing landscape where having a big budget isn’t a requirement for having a big and powerful action. We also hope that by creating this infrastructure we can make all of our movement spaces more agile and able to quickly scale up when opportunities emerge.
But now, to keep doing this work, we need some support from the movement. Can you help us raise the money we need to replace our gear and continue the work?
- If you’re able to donate, please pitch in what you can.
- If you can’t donate, please think about helping to spread the word by sharing this fundraiser on social media.
- If you’ve worked with us in the past and you think ReAction is an important resource for the movement, please think about sharing how we’ve helped you take bold action.
Thank you all for your continued support as we get through this frustrating setback.
In solidarity,
Patrick
PS. Planning an action in the next week or so? We *probably* can still support you! But fill out this form ASAP. Whoever took our gear got a lot of our best stuff but we can still cover most small-medium sized actions and events (as long as nobody else has the gear that day). Our hope is to be back up at full speed in a week or two.
