My name is Langston Harris and I am a Life Scout in Troop 96 of Silver Spring, MD.  

Here in my community, immigrants and refugees make up a large percentage of the population and play an important role in the economic success of the area and diversifying its culture. It is well known that the immigrant community is the most vulnerable population in the United States. For the refugees coming into this country, the need for stable housing is great. The fact that we are in the midst of a global pandemic only heightens that need. 

To aid at least one family in their transition to the United States, I have decided to furnish an apartment for my Eagle Service Project. With the International Rescue Committee (IRC) as the beneficiary of my project, I am collecting donations of furniture, kitchenware, linens, toiletries, and other household goods.  

Due to health and sanitation laws, I am unable to accept donations of gently used mattresses.  Therefore, I am asking for monetary donations to cover the cost of purchasing new mattresses as well as any remaining items I am unable to collect.  No donation is too small.  I’d be especially grateful for any amount you can give.
