About two weeks ago, Hurricane Melissa made its way through the Caribbean, causing significant destruction and loss of life. One of the hardest-hit islands was Jamaica.
As many of you know, my mother-in-law lives there, and she told me on Tuesday morning that the storm had arrived. It took over a week for me to hear that she was safe. Thank you, Jesus.
My mother-in-law survived the hurricane with two disabled children, and all of them made it through.
She lives in a rental property, and her lack of work prevented her from making any preparations. The only protection she had were trash bags over the windows to block the 180+ mph winds. Unfortunately, the roof blew off her house, the water flooded every room, and she lost everything.
There is no power, no running water, and no food. Everything is gone.
The most heartbreaking part is that a house we were trying to renovate for her to own was also destroyed.
For anyone who wants to donate to help those in need, I am sharing this in hopes that donations will go directly to people with a personal connection.
I am striving to raise $3,000.00 to help my mom-in-law rebuild her life. It will be a long journey, but the goal is for her to have a home of her own and control over helping herself and her children.
If anyone feels moved to help, I will be forever grateful, and so will she.
