Ruth Bruns is a longstanding member of the Hawthorne Valley community and a grandmother who for the past 9 years has been supporting and raising 3 grandchildren, while working and maintaining her small home in Philmont. Those of us in her circle of support know Ruth to be a loving, striving person, willing to sacrifice for those in need. Despite limited financial resources, Ruth has managed to keep her head afloat through diligence and hard work, but there is no padding should she encounter challenging times.
At age 78, Ruth is now supporting her youngest granddaughter, who is 10. Her income is limited to Social Security, child support, and what she can earn. Not much when considering present needs and future planning, and the cost of raising a child. Her small house, still financed and in need of significant repairs, is the home space she has for herself and her youngest grandchild.
Ruth has the opportunity to move into secure and more affordable housing where she can continue to create a loving home for her granddaughter; while leaving behind the heavy physical tasks of snow removal, lawn and home maintenance, and perhaps cut back on what is presently a heavy work schedule. She is eager to do this, and those of us in her circle of support feel this is a move toward greater security and stability.
We are raising funds because the move will require about $10,000 for deposits, moving costs, mortgage payments while the house is listed and sold, and purchase some second hand furniture to replace some badly worn pieces. Additionally it will provide some surplus funds for unforeseen costs or support for her granddaughter.
Knowing the value of a calm, clean, loving home environment; and the importance of financial security, we hope you will make a contribution to support Ruth making this move. It will benefit her and her granddaughter and provide them with a more stable, secure and supportive living situation.
Thank you sincerely,
Lisa Damian
