Gwyl Corona Festival

Gwyl Corona Festival & Gwyl Corona Xtra

This year, we had three fundraising concerts arranged in which we had to cancel. We are funded
entirely by kind voluntary financial donations. During a committee meeting beginning of May, one of our volunteers suggested doing an online concert, then the idea developed. In less than three weeks, we arranged an online
music Festival on our Facebook page called ‘Corona Festival’ to raise money for the running costs of
our station and also to raise money for our hospital’s official charity; Awyr Las/Blue Sky.

Initially, we were hoping we could arrange a Festival 7-9pm but the response we had from our local artists was phenomenal! We had over 5 1⁄2 hours of entertainment from our amazing local artists and also a special personal message and performance from  KT Tunstall all the way from Los Angeles! Our committee promoted the event on several radio stations, newspapers and websites. All our presenters promoted the event on their social media platforms. When we posted the full line up poster for our festival on our Facebook page; the poster had 83 shares and 35,199 people
were reached. There was a real buzz in our community for our festival, especially with no live music
or events happening for a long time. A doctor from our hospital also performed and many of our
presenters took part in presenting during the evening and also performing themselves.

Following the success of our ‘Corona Festival’ and the phenomenal response we had from our local artists in our community, we decided to hold our ‘Corona Xtra’ Festival. We had some extra videos that we had from some of our performers that he didn’t have time to show and also some special videos that hadn’t arrived in time. We started to advertise our ‘Corona Xtra’ Festival and our local artists were amazing once again. We had some artists who asked if they could perform again and we had new artists who had seen our first Festival and wanted to get involved. Chart-toppers and Foo Fighters’ favourites The Joy Formidable sent us a personal good luck message from America with one of their videos to include and Britain’s Got Talent’s mighty Richard and Adam sent a beautiful video for us to include. This time we thought the concert would be between 8-10pm but we had over 3 hours of new and unseen performances! It is evident that our station is very important to our community due to all the musicians that helped us. Not once, but twice.

During an uncertain time, we have worked very closely even though we are all miles apart. We have successfully managed to continue to broadcast safely for four months and have arranged two professional enormous fundraising events all on Zoom, Facebook and What’s App. It is a testament of our team work and our love for our station, our patients and our community, and the love our community has in return for our station.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
