My name is Victoria Keiser and I plan to travel to Peru this coming March to volunteer with the organization, Healing the Children. This will be my fifth medical mission with the organization and these trips are why I am so passionate about medicine today.
I first traveled to Peru when I was twelve years old. I was too young to participate in any significant capacity, but on that service trip, I learned that medicine was my passion. In high school, I became an EMT, started taking medical-related classes, and delved into the Spanish language. I traveled on two more service trips to Guatemala and Belize. I was able to volunteer as a medical assistant, taking vital signs and triaging patients. It was in Guatemala that I decided I wanted to be a physician. I was accepted into the pre-medical program at Boston University a few years later. At BU, my passion for medicine grew stronger. I participated in medical internships, worked as an EMT, and thrived in my medical and public health classes. My sophomore year, I traveled to Peru for my fourth medical mission with Healing the Children.
Now as a graduate of BU, I am working at Morristown Medical Center as an Emergency Room Technician. I dream to travel on this year's medical trip to Peru because I have gained many more experiences that will enable me to help in an even greater capacity this year. Eventually I will become a physician who will volunteer annually wherever I am needed. Until then, I will make the effort to volunteer whenever I can in whatever role I may. I am asking for your donations to help me fund this year's trip. Every dollar counts and even a small donation brings me one step closer to making a difference in someone’s life.
