Did you know that because Detroit winters are so harsh, many children miss months of school, because they simply don’t have a coat to keep them warm on their walk to school? The Gutsy Girls want to help.
For $26, one more child will be kept warm this winter, and be able to walk to school, go outdoors, and enjoy the snow fall, rather than staying cooped up inside.
The Gutsy Girls, a local San Diego group designed to empower girls, has created this campaign for the Detroit Community Coat Drive, a local coat drive in Detroit that provides elementary school students with warm coats for the winter. This is the event’s fourth year. The Gutsy Girls are also going to be knitting and weaving beanies, scarves, and other warmies for kids!!
In the words of Trevor Epps - the organizer of the Coat Drive: “To say that we would be grateful does not compare to the smiles and excitement expressed by the children receiving coats! School is an essential part of foundation to a child's youth. Let's help the babies of our community stay in school through the winter months, and the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor fun through snow fall!”
The goal of this campaign is to raise at least $1300 by Black Friday - to buy 50 brand new warm coats (averaging $26/coat) for K-8 students. If we raise more, then more coats will be purchased! Funds will be withdrawn by Trevor Epps, who will be purchasing coats on Black Friday, to give to the students in December.
If you can't donate right now, please help the Gutsy Girls and these kids by sharing this campaign on FB or with two or three other people in person.
Help the Gutsy Girls spread some warmth this holiday season!!
