Strides for Guinea, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to revolutionize the public health system of Guinea by providing educational resources, promoting wellness, and raising awareness about environmental pollution. In keeping up with our mission, we remain focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of our fellow Guinean citizens in any capacity we can.
The ongoing Coronavirus outbreak has not only brought up many uncertainties in our daily lives, but it has also been a clear reminder of the challenges that poor people in countries like Guinea continuously face. As such, it has been imperative for SFG as an organization to uphold and work alongside our mission during these unprecedented times. During the month of Ramadan, SFG collaborated with Destin En Main to donate bottles of bleach, bags of rice and sugar, boxes of soap, and gallons of milk and palm oil to habitants of the Hamdaleye community in Conakry, Guinea. Among the recipients were orphans at an orphanage called "Les Associations Des Innocents Du Monde" also known as " The Associations of the Innocents of the World", at Lansanayah Barage, and families in Kountiya.
During our visit to deliver resources to the orphanage at Lansanayah Barage, we noted the deteriorating condition of the building, with roof leakages and mold. This led to the kids in the orphanage to be temporarily displaced. The condition of the orphanage has been further damaged by severe weather complication, making it inhabitable for the children who were housed there. The children’s displacement is concerning as they now lack even more access to not only food, but also protective materials to minimize exposure to the virus. The orphanage is dependent on donations however many of these have been halted due to the impact of COVID-19. Thus, SFG would like to do more for the orphanage and we need your help.
In the past few weeks SFG has been speaking with the management staff of the orphanage to come up with plans to improve the conditions. Our goal is to raise $5,000 to accomplish the following:
- Fix the leakages and mold.
- Provide hygienic supplies such as bleach, soap, buckets, etc.
- Provide food supplies, such as: rice, sugar, palm oil, milk and other essentials.
With your donations we can all keep the children safe and your help will be much appreciated by the children and the amazing staff that strives daily to give the best to the children.
