I’ve struggled with the decision to create this fundraising campaign for Kanan’s guardianship expenses. However, as the days go by, it becomes more imperative to get this done. In Florida, the process of establishing guardianship requires an attorney.

Unfortunately, being Kanan’s biological mother and sole caregiver for his entire life does not weigh into the equation. Guardianship is necessary, legally.

I have been a single mother for the majority of my children’s childhood. They do not receive financial support, otherwise.

For the past 9-12 months, Kanan’s current perseverative behavior is to make food and drinks for himself, tear the food into pieces, throw it in the trash, and pour his drinks down the drain. On repeat. Daily. He does the same thing with his art supplies. As you can imagine, this has greatly increased the household cost of groceries. Combine this with the current cost of living, and we’re left in a bad situation. There is nothing left to contribute elsewhere.
