My name is Ved Chandra. I am a 16 year old and will start my junior year in High School after this Summer. I am a Life Scout in Boy Scouts of America and working on my Eagle Scout Service Project. With my 5 years as a cub scout (Grade 1 to 5), 5 years as boy scout (Grade 6 till 10), 2 years in NJROTC (Grade 9 till 10) and 3 years in Civil Air Patrol (US Air Force Auxiliary) , one thing I have learned is the importance of Community Service and Volunteering to make things better around us. In my opinion this is what makes our country the greatest of all.
I also find all aspects of aerospace fascinating. I visit aerospace museums whenever and wherever I can. March Field Air Museum in Riverside, CA is closest to my home and is next to March Air Force Base with its majestic C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster, KC-135 Strato-tanker and other planes. The museum has a cockpit of B-47 Stratojet Bomber, which was world's first swept wing bomber using fly-by-wire technology. Over 2000 were manufactured in their hay days, out of which only 23 remains today. This is an incredible piece of history and needs some tender loving care.
My Service project is restoration of this B-47 Stratojet Bomber Cockpit. It will need deep cleaning, sanding, painting, replacement of some items and minor repairs. It has served our great nation and now deserve a nice rest in its retirement, so that it can continue to tell awe-inspiring stories and inspire our generations to come.
